50 million soaked up by floods: how does the Consorcio handle compensation?

This summer Spain has gone through water. The most severe rains have caused flooding in different parts of Spain. The Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros has received 9.296 claims for indemnity worth more than 50 million euros.

Who can claim?

Those who are policyholders, beneficiaries of a policy or third parties with loss and damage.

What is the timeframe for requesting compensation?

7 days, and the quicker the better. Since you are our client, as an insurance broker we can take care of your claim. We provide the Consorcio with the policy data, the policyholder and the beneficiary and, with your help, specify the loss and damage. We provide the insurer with a bank account number for transfer of the indemnity.

The adjustor will require…

Quotes and invoices for repairs, a copy of the policy and the voucher for the last premium payment.

Keep the damaged goods if you can and take photos before disposing of them.

What does it mean if the adjustor says there is infra-insurance?

That the insured capital is less than the real value of the goods affected. If the declared value is lower than the real value, the compensation will also be less than the damages caused since the latter is calculated proportionally to the declared value. Check your policy and tell us if you think it requires more capital.

Will the Consorcio compensate for loss of profit?

YES, if it is a consequence of direct lass or damage. But it must be explicitly included in the items covered.
