In 1993 the UN General Assembly established the 15th of May as the International Day of Families. This commemoration reflects the importance that the international community places on the family as a basic unit of society regardless of how it is composed. It fosters the adoption of appropriate measures to help families and ensure the well-being and personal dignity of all their members.
In 2019, the International Day of Families focused on inclusive families and societies, stressing the need to build peaceful, inclusive societies to achieve sustainable development.
The concept of family has developed over the years in accordance with worldwide trends and demographic changes. There are families with two mums, two dads and single-parent families, others that include the grandparents, pets, large families, childless families… and they are all families, in which the essential element is love.
Fortunately, the insurance industry is also evolving with society to protect all members of the family unit regardless of its composition and there are as many varieties of protection as there are types of family.
